A favorite dining experience on my recent trip to the Rhone was in ...

P82

a restaurant called Campagne, Vignes & Gourmandises in Sainte-Cecile-les-Vignes, just north of Avignon. This night I dined on Lentil cream soup with scallops (chicken stock with very finely chopped lentils & cream), Poached Guinea Hen with fingerlings in a delicate white wine cream sauce, and cheese platter to finish. The wine was a 2009 Domaine de la Janasse Viognier. A perfect complement. The southern Rhone is a magical place. One of Earth's great treasures. When in the area, I recommend visits to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Sablet, Cairanne, and Avignon.
